Dual diagnosis treatment is designed to simultaneously address mental health and substance use disorders. It is sometimes referred to as “co-occurring disorder treatment” because it manages conditions that often overlap.
For many people, it’s impossible to separate addiction from mental health – even if mental health concerns don’t drive substance use, they can certainly result from it. Substance use is a form of self-medication for many, so any attempt to stop it must also consider its underlying causes.
At our dual diagnosis treatment center in Cincinnati, we understand that treating a client as a whole person is key. That includes recognizing the ways their mental health and substance use behaviors interact and influence each other. We utilize a combination of behavioral therapies, medical support, and psychiatric care to get to the heart of addictive behaviors as well as the mental battles that often surround them.

At Cedar Oaks, we offer far more than dual diagnosis therapy; our facility is equipped to support a full continuum of care. That means we guide our clients through recovery from start to finish. At Cedar Oaks, we strive to offer a diverse range of programs to fit the needs of any client who walks through our doors. Treatment options we provide include:
Detoxification
Before treatment can begin in earnest, clients need a clear mind. Detoxification from substances in a safe, controlled environment helps clients stabilize. This step is often crucial for those with ongoing addictions, as detoxing independently can create serious health and safety risks.
Inpatient Care
Clients who can benefit from round-the-clock supervision can reside at our facility full-time for a specified period. While in our care, clients receive personalized support and treatment. During this stage of treatment, clients can focus entirely on their recovery and build a solid foundation to add to later on.
Medication-Assisted Treatment
Our team offers medication-assisted treatment for those whose needs warrant the use of prescription medications. Prescribing, monitoring, and adjusting medications help many clients overcome obstacles that make it challenging to recover. When mental health concerns are part of a client’s reality, the ability to access medical support can be life-changing.
Partial Hospitalization Program
This program serves as an ideal intermediary step between inpatient and outpatient treatment. It allows clients to return home at night while attending regular treatment.
Outpatient and Alumni Services
As clients progress on their treatment plan and transition back to daily life, they can stay in touch with peers and our team by engaging in our sober living services. Alumni relations help clients share their struggles, successes, and stories with others who understand. These sorts of resources can be a critical part of long-term sobriety and recovery.
